(the following
is a short, general description only. For
a deeper understanding of our group and what we
stand for, we recommend reading our various flyers)
While most
political groups, organizations and movements deal with specific, singular facets
of the struggle for liberation, justice and equality (women's rights, environmentalism,
racial issues etc.), Ma'avak Ehad operates out of an understanding that all
struggles are connected, in principle and practice, and sees its' goal - besides
of course the long term goal of creating a better world - as highlighting the
connection between all different forms of oppression, and hence also of the
various struggles against them.
We define ourselves specifically as an animal rights group, meaning that we
feel an urgent need to put an emphasis on the exploitation of non-human animals,
which in our eyes is the worst kind to ever take place, in terms of both nature
and scale. We believe that animals are not food products, property, a resource
or "lower life forms", and that every living creature that has the
ability to suffer is entitled to equal consideration regarding his suffering
and needs. Beyond that, it is painfully clear to us that the systematic exploitation
and murder of tens of billions of animals every year worldwide (primarily in
the food industry) is neither "natural", effective nor healthy, and
does not exist due to any real, concrete needs of mankind, but rather as a result
of erroneous values: the exact same values which have led to the enslavement
of non-whites, the oppression of women, the persecution of homosexuals etc.
Those who speak of liberating any given sector while chewing on the flesh of
innocent, dead beings simply do not comprehend the true meaning of "liberation".
We are Anarchists because we do not believe the way in which the world is currently
organized to be the best possible way, or the lesser of all evils. States and
governments, police and armies, the historical function of these institutions
has never been to serve or protect people but to maintain a functioning, stable
social "order", with the aim of enabling the continued exploitation
of the majority of the population by rich and powerful minorities. We believe
people have the ability to organize their lives without coercion, punishments
or commands from above, based solely on a natural, voluntary sense of beneficiancy.
Any idea or way of thinking (cultural, economic or political) which is based
on people having to entrust responsibility for their lives in the hands of leaders
does not - and cannot - lead to liberation, as is clearly illustrated by history,
for the simple reason that the interests of rulers and ruled are diametrically
opposed.
Anarchist thought is also among the most ideologically diverse and heterogenic
there is, and indeed, there is no rigid unison of thought among our group's
members, but rather an agreement on broader, general guidelines (and mainly
on a willingness to act, since we are not a discussion group or a Trotskyist
cult but a group of activists, and verbal means achieve nothing but verbal goals).
Further in contrast to the small political fringe cults of the Israeli radical
scene, we do not foolishly aspire or pretend to lead or represent "the
masses", and we do not want people to join us. We are not a movement. We
encourage people to start their own new groups and act as they see fit in the
struggle for liberation, justice and equality for all.
The grip which social falsities currently enjoy on each and every aspect of
our lives has never been stronger throughout human history. The media monopolies,
the technological hostile takeover of our entire lives, the consumerist disease
which kills westerns spiritually as it kills the rest of the world physically...
and here in Israel, the sheer strength of the legitimacy of force - Nationalistic,
Militaristic and other - has never been more embraced. State and corporate "education"
systems are pushing us further and further into the threshold of a life that
is, at best, a slow and continuing death - devoid of value, ripe with destruction
- and our resistance should be sweeping and total. Our oppressions, the oppression
of each and every one of us, lies in our own treatment of non-human animals
and the natural world surrounding us, in our attitude towards money, products
and the work ethic, personal relationships, sex and gender roles, religion,
tradition and national identity. Any attitude which is not directly and instantly
a liberating force in our lives is necessarily an enslaving one.
Refuse to live the life offered you on election days and shopping channels,
even when this refusal is "extreme" and difficult: an easy life is
an easy lie. The struggle for liberation, justice and equality signifies our
insistence on choosing life.
